Kidneys Normal urine flow passes from the kidneys through two tubes called ureters to be collected in the urinary bladder then discharged through the urethra outside of the body. A blockage can occur along the urinary tract due to renal calculi, benign prostatic hyperplasia, or structural abnormalities. Such blockage might cause the urine to be retained inside one or both…
Chronic neuropathic pain is a persistent pain lasting over three or six months. This type of pain shows no response to pharmacological treatments. Shefaa offers a minimally invasive procedure, where a small incision is made to implant electrodes over the spinal cord to restrain pain signals. This technique is known as “spinal cord stimulation”.
The human vascular system contains a large group of blood vessels including arteries, veins, and blood capillaries. Arteries carry the blood from the heart to other organs, while veins carry the blood from the organs to the heart. Blood capillaries are tiny blood vessels that connect both the veins and arties. In a disorder called arteriovenous malformations, veins and arteries are tangled together, where abnormal connection between them both is present with no capillaries. This defect interferes with the blood supply to an organ and is most common in the brain and spinal cord.
At Shefaa, our interventional radiologists offer a range of minimally invasive techniques to treat benign and malignant tumors. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is one of those techniques, where a needle inserted through the skin is used to deliver thermal energy generated by radiofrequencies to kill tumor cells. The insertion process is guided by ultrasound or CT imaging. RFA is useful in the treatment of primary and secondary liver and lung cancer in addition to kidney cancers.
The narrowing down or obstruction of arteries supplying blood to the legs or the arms is the underlying cause of peripheral arterial disease, which affects your ability to move. Factors such as ageing, obesity, smoking, high level of cholesterol and familial history are thought to increase the risk of developing this condition.
It is a diagnostic and interventional method performed by our interventional cardiologists at Shefaa to evaluate and/or treat specific cardiovascular diseases. In this minimally invasive procedure, a long, narrow, flexible tube, cardiac catheter, is inserted, under local anesthesia, in the groin or the arm to reach the heart. In order to enable x-rays to create visible images, a special dye is injected in the coronary arteries (supply blood to the heart muscle). The produced x-ray images are used to locate an area of coronary obstruction or stenosis .
